Meet your interior designer, Georgia Brown

The Pitau is Sanderson Group’s newest and most impressive development, boasting three towers of luxury apartments situated in the heart of Mount Maunganui, New Zealand.

Known and loved for its stunning white sand beaches and vibrant local ambience, Mount Maunganui beach is home to surfers, nature lovers and foodies, with a culture that is defined by a combination of beach, fashion and culinary appreciation. With strong links to its heritage, the mountain, Mauao is affectionately shortened to ‘The Mount’ by locals, and is scattered with plaques and sculptures celebrating its importance within the history of the area.

The colour palettes you will find at The Pitau have been designed by interior designer Georgia Brown to echo its surroundings, with soft hues to encompass the feeling you have when living so close to the ocean, using natural materials and finishes to combine comfort, longevity and luxury.

Georgia Brown, Interior Designer for Mount Maunganui's 'The Pitau' by Sanderson Group

Georgia Brown

Georgia’s reference to her inspiration are around the local mountain, Mauao, being a fierce guardian at the end of a peninsula. ‘From the base of the mountain, it overlooks the meeting of sand and shore, bearing witness to the relationship between these elements.

As the waves crash against the land, they form jagged rocks and rolling sand dunes along the coastline; ever-changing and fluid. Mauao, by contrast, stays constant, guarding the land and offering protection against the ocean forces.

The design of The Pitau reflects the symbiotic relationship between Mauao and the sea. The architecture echoes the natural contours of the mountain, with curved forms and flowing lines that evoke the rhythm of the waves.

These three land formations, the protective sand dunes, the exposed jagged edges of Mauao’s rock pools and the seashore where they meet, are the inspiration for the physical palettes used throughout The Pitau, and the three apartment interior options.’

Georgia Brown is a New Zealand born, London-based multidisciplinary interior designer, with vast experience in multi-residential architecture, the aged care sector and hospitality design. She has worked in some of New Zealand’s leading design practices, including Peddle Thorp and hospitality driven studio, Ctrl Space.

Within these studios, Georgia has worked across an array of noteworthy projects, crossing many design realms. Georgia was the interior designer behind The Helier (Oceania), based in Auckland’s St Heliers, as well as Pohutukawa Landings (Meltilife Care) - two large scale aged care projects.

That experience is complemented by her work in hospitality design, most notably the award winning Italian restaurant Bossi in downtown Auckland. Georgia brings a unique skill set which infuses multi-residential living with hospitality offerings, encouraging interaction between residents and communities.

As a designer, paying homage to the environment and its users is at the core of her design philosophy, drawing inspiration from the landscape to derive her designs. This, combined with a desire to seek design solutions which work for users’ requirements, drives the understated, polished and functional aesthetic within her work. Georgia brings a new and fresh take to aged care design, encouraging these buildings to be symbols of connectivity, social engagement and knowledge within communities.

Her work for Pitau sets out to make all spaces feel like a proud extension of residents’ homes, as well as hospitality gathering points for all Mount Maunganui residents to enjoy.
